Kyle Mack has been a member of the NDSU faculty since 1993. He teaches applied trombone/euphonium, conducting, and music education classes in addition to directing NDSU’s top Jazz Ensemble. He served for twenty years as the music director for the Fargo-Moorhead Jazz Arts Group Big Band. The JAG Big Band CD “And That’s That” features his solo trombone on the track “Emily.”

Dr. Mack has performed with professional artists such as Frank Mantooth, Bill Watrous, Pete Barbutti, Jimmy Heath, Louie Bellson, Tom “Bones” Malone, Rufus Reid, Bob Mintzer, Conte Candoli, Carl Fontana, Pete Christlieb, Kurt Elling and many others. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental/Vocal Music Education from Dickinson State University and his graduate degrees are from Ball State University, where he was the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies and the Assistant Director of Bands. Dr. Mack is a Dickinson State University “Distinguished Alumni Fellow” as well as a member of the Bismarck St. Mary’s Central High School “Hall of Fame.”

He received the 2018 ND Outstanding Jazz Educator Award. Dr. Mack has coordinated and hosted an annual jazz festival at NDSU featuring the NDSU Jazz Ensemble with guest artists from around the world. Dr. Mack is a Conn-Selmer endorsing artist and is very active as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest soloist. He lives in south Fargo with his wife Sam, daughter Lauryn, and Baron Von FitzWalter (a.k.a. Walter, the cat).
